Thrive is searching for an experienced leader to define overall direction and drive execution of all Thrive sourcing and procurement activities, with a primary focus on Clinical Lab and R&D materials. This position will provide direction to all strategic sourcing activities and implement policies, best-practices, systems and reporting to enable rapid growth and optimize value in alignment with business needs. He/she will oversee the full cycle of Thrive’s direct and indirect procurement needs, including central management of all procurement contracts, negotiation and execution. The role will provide leadership, management and expertise for quality assurance (QA) of vendor supply chains, will develop and maintain sourcing strategies and materials resource plans, and will identify new supply solutions as internal needs evolve. This individual will have responsibility for building the Procurement function and will collaborate within our organization as well as work closely with multiple external parties. S/he will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and have matrixed accountability to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the supply chain and supply quality management objectives of the Clinical Lab and R&D teams; guide decision-making as needs arise/evolve related to external resource requirements
  • Define resource needs within the procurement team and contract and/or hire, manage and develop a team of exceptional professional sourcing staff
  • Build and lead effective strategic relationships with key suppliers to drive improvement in overall supplier performance and pricing
  • Routinely review and translate forecasted lab volume into inventory and service requirements
  • Work with appropriate teams to determine timelines and requirements for delivery of materials, equipment and services
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to conduct price negotiations for all equipment, supplies and services as required
  • Continually review business processes, in collaboration with appropriate other functions, to identify areas for greater cost savings and/or improved service efficiency
  • In collaboration with the Finance team, continuously improve policies, processes, systems, controls and reporting for sourcing, procurement and inventory management to achieve increasingly robust, cost effective and value-added results
  • Establish a framework for supply chain risk review and vendor categorization based on pertinent parameters, such as vendor reliance metrics and resulting preferred provider listing
  • Serve as internal lead for significant failures involving purchased materials, and function as a key resource for all supply-related contract dispute resolution. Address internal and external audit findings; lead implementation of corrective actions and quality system improvements
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate vendor-related QA activities, with emphasis on the principals and practices of ISO standards, primarily ISO 9001: 2008. This includes the development and implementation of supplier evaluation procedures, including self-assessments and audits
  • Develop and implement metrics for supplier performance, including variance reporting for critical supply chains as needed and other compliance
  • Coordinate shipping and logistics with external customers and partners

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred, with 8+ years of relevant experience; Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) experience preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of strategic sourcing best practices and support systems in a federally regulated environment
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment in negotiating complex contracts and supplier execution
  • Experience hiring, developing and managing procurement professionals
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems, and experience implementing purchasing systems (either directly or through oversight)
  • Self-directed with an ability to network and identify strategic sourcing opportunities
  • Extensive experience in managing and working within cross-functional and multi-site teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple critical path projects concurrently
  • Excellent skills in navigating a matrixed organization and strong collaboration skills
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both oral and written
