We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Bioinformatic Scientist to join the Biostatistics and Informatics team at a new Third Rock Ventures portfolio company in Cambridge, MA.  The Senior Bioinformatic Scientist will be responsible for developing and validating multi-analyte computational algorithms for early cancer detection. The successful candidate will possess deep statistical knowledge, strong analytical skills, solid scientific background, and a high level of professional maturity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize and validate computation algorithms for cancer diagnostic test
  • Implement data mining strategies to enable biomarker analysis on large multi-omics and clinical datasets
  • Design and lead a bridging strategy and change control process for continuous algorithm updates
  • Collaborate with Technology team to integrate validated algorithms into software development
  • Partner with Product Development, Clinical Development and Regulatory teams on study design planning, data preparation, programming, analysis and result interpretation
  • Communicate results in internal and external forums to support scientific, regulatory and business objectives

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics or related quantitative fields
  • In-depth knowledge of computational methodologies for cancer biomarker discovery, detection and classification
  • Experience in cancer diagnostics or biopharmaceutical companies preferred
  • Strong programming and computing skills (eg Python, R)
  • Extensive scientific understanding of cancer genomics and proteomics, technical proficiency and creativity, and a strong capacity for innovative thinking
  • Knowledge and experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases (NCBI, UCSC Genome Browser, IGV)
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects as part of a small team with matrixed resources
  • Self-motivated, with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and an ability to adapt to increasing opportunities and responsibilities as our team rapidly grows
